Good Afternoon! It’s been a very busy autumn for Local S-6 and its membership and I believe we’re (over)due for a recap…
Thursday 22nd August was MDA Ambassador Abby’s 13th birthday. C-Shift hosted this event. Abby, her father and two sisters joined the shift for cake, ice-cream and games. She was gifted $100 and an Airport Fire Department blanket from the Union. She had a great time and extends her thanks to all. Many thanks to Driver John Hengen for organizing this birthday party!
The annual Minnesota Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial followed on Sunday 29th September at the State Capitol grounds. A special thanks to Honor Guard members Adrienne Selbitschka and Brent Carlson for representing Airport Fire during this ceremony.
Tuesday 1st October brought our inaugural involvement in the annual MAC Public Safety Awards Banquet at the Lost Spur Country Club in Eagan. Captain Cory Peterson, Driver Adrienne Selbitschka and Firefighters Brent Carlson, Jamel Anderson & Ryan Huisheere were acknowledged for their exemplary response to a medical emergency earlier in the year. The Airport Fire Department Honor Guard membership was acknowledged for their services. And last, but certainly not least, Captain Josh Renneke became our very first recipient of the prestigious Firefighter of the Year award. Congratulations, Sir!
Fill the Boot closely followed on Thursday 3rd October and Friday 4th October. Local S-6 would like to acknowledge the following for hitting the streets and raising money for MDA: Captain & Union President Dan Olson, Captain Mike Fecht, Drivers Will Wilfong, Chris Reese, Terry Brennan & Donny Johnson, Driver & Union Vice President Brian Knoke, and Firefighters Michael Walter, Mike Murphy, Brent Carlson, Dustin Dodge, Jamel Anderson, Bob Cooper, Jacob Ross & Adam Younger. Additionally, retired member Chris Blegen drove down for the event. Gentlemen, thank you. Through your efforts we raised a considerable sum of money for MDA. It’s also important to note that this annual event is diligently organized and executed by Driver John Hengen. Thank you, Sir!
Fire Prevention week and the annual Hotdog Lunch/Bake Sale occurred on Friday 11th October. Once again, Local S-6 provided all of the food and pop for this event and C-Shift provided the manpower - which has become very popular with MAC staff. Making it even more special was the arrival of many retired Airport Fire Departmenrt personnel. A special thanks to Driver Jennifer Toavs for organizing the accompanying bake sale (and helpers Rebecca Carlson and Adrienne Selbitschka) which raised additional funds for MDA.
It takes a village to run this Local and Fire Department and every bit of help contributes to our collective successes. Thank you to everyone - current, retired, family and friends - who make all of this possible!
